Matt Ben Jackson (free) 04:58
Matt Ben Jackson The sun was still perched on that plateau horizon when the new stranger rode into town. He never would say where it was that he came from, but he seemed to know his way around. He talked about justice and cleaning up filth. He wore him a big shiny badge. He picked out some men and he made them his deputies. He put the law into their hands. It wouldn't be long before trouble would find him, but that's what he came looking for. The silence was broken by two-dozen horsemen, all dusty and ready for war. He'd heard of these outlaws, cowards at best. He figured he'd go speak his mind. Before he could talk, they'd encircled him close, and one sucker-punched him from behind. He spits and he curses, his veins nearly bursting. He picks his tooth up off the floor. The impact was heavy, and not just a fist, but a symbol of friendship no-more. The visions of something he'd dreamed of becoming were starting to alter his course, And slowly he realized that being a legend takes more than a gun and a horse. © 2011 The Old World

20 Seconds 03:36
20 Seconds Live like a dreamer, die in your sleep, or wake up each morning and tend to your sheep. Wait for the signal, watch for the light. I've got the stars guiding me home tonight. Lost in the desert, a meal for the sun; a suitable end for a once hired gun. Saved by the rain heaven sent from above, keeping my head is a labor of love. Rightly condemned for the sins of my youth, but I've learned my lesson, ain't that the truth. There's no sum of money worth the life of a friend, but the question arises again and again. Never-mind the loaded gun. Let's get it over, let's get it done. Never-mind the loaded gun. I'll give you twenty seconds to run. © 2011 The Old World

Mexico 04:29
Mexico Last night I dreamed I was falling, but this time I did hit the ground. My ears rang all the next morning, a warning that I can't ignore. I feel like I've been here before... But I just got out of this place. I did everything that I could to not leave a trace. It's been three days, you'd think by now that someone back at home Would send someone to find us, after seeing what we've done. And I still can't remember why we ever left The States But I guess that don't matter anymore. Love songs have always intrigued me, but I loved the song, not the girl. I held true, I didn't give in, but you managed to make an impression. You could have been my exception. But we just got out of this place. We spent the best years cleaning up the mess that we'd made. It's been three days, you'd think by now that someone back at home Would send someone to find us, after seeing what we've done. And I still can't remember why we ever left The States But I guess that don't matter anymore. Where did we go wrong? © 2011 The Old World

Save Me 04:11
Save Me Who will save me from my past, and free me from regret at last? Who will save me from old-age? My feeble frame becomes my cage. Who will save me from these eyes, that wish to take away my life? What I really need to ask, is who will save me from myself? Who will save me from the doubt, when things are turning inside-out? Who will save me when I'm weak? Her whispers put my mind to sleep. Who will save me when I wake, and still don't realize my mistake? I'm afraid of all this self-inflicted pain. Yeah, I'm the one to blame. Who will save me from myself? © 2011 The Old World

Rollover Schumann I can't stop these voices in my ear. They sing the same old thing year after year. Won't you hold me tight, and let me know you're near. When you're around, it's all clear. A head on fire, and full of mercury, I'm stepping down from this great legacy. Call it prose, or call it poetry, Sweet harmony, here's what you do to me. These visions won't stop haunting me; These demons of regret. These spirit things are taunting me. They challenge me to forget. A head on fire, and full of mercury, I'm stepping down from this great legacy. Call it prose, or call it poetry, Sweet harmony, here's what you do to me. Clara, it's been years since I could hear your voice without the clouded noise. There's nowhere else to go, so I'll jump to the icy Rhine below. A head on fire, and full of mercury, I'm stepping down from this great legacy. Call it prose, or call it poetry, Sweet harmony, here's what you do to me. A steady hand, or the quiet life; these are luxuries I'll never realize. Note by note, I'll sing this through, Between the bars that write me back to you. © 2011 The Old World

Rollin' Boulders Keep your head between your shoulders, stop rollin' boulders onto the tracks. I did not mean to up-end you, nor to offend you. I'm just stating facts. But your fists are full of sand, and you're throwing it all to the wind. Though I'm a simple man, I've seen it time, and time again. You're living in a dream. But the dream is a fall, and I'm falling right down next to you. Rest your head upon my shoulder, we'll let this smolder all through the night. I never thought that I would know you, but now I know you and it's alright. Well, I had the perfect plan, but the waves took it out with the tide. Without a place to stand, now I'm just along for the ride. Are we living in a dream? But the dream is a fall, and I'm falling right down next to you. Now I'm not so sure what I'm still waiting for. Am I living in a dream? But the dream is a fall, and I'm falling right down next to you. © 2011 The Old World

Wind Calling 03:08
Wind Calling All through the valley, I hear the wind calling, I hope that it's calling to me. I am the dust, drifted in through your window. I'll settle down here silently. So many roads tell a man to be distant. It comes as a necessity. All that I need is a breeze to come lift me, and send me to where I'll be free. But it won't be long before I'll start to miss you. I'll try to find my way back home. Ask any lonely soul, here's what they'll tell you: That life ain't worth living alone. All through the evening, I see the dark rider. I hope that he's coming for me. So many roads tell a man to be tired. I'll lay my head down to sleep. They'll bury my bed under hills of white flowers. I hope that you won't weep for me. Cause it won't be long before I'll start to miss you. I'll come back to bring you home. Ask any lonely soul, here's what they'll tell you: That death ain't worth dying alone. © 2011 The Old World

Secret Sauce 03:21
Secret Sauce I've got to ask, what have you done with my past? You calmly wiped it away. You're insane. I've got your heart on my plate, and I'm cloning your brain. Kill the time. Fall off the edge of your mind. We're doing this right. I can tell from the way that you melt, you're bringing me home. Let's celebrate. We brought you back from the grave, and not a moment too late. Swallow whole those numbers that you promote. You'll need all you can get. I'm up all night. These pills, they won't kill the pain. The symptoms, I can't explain. There's no escape. They're closing every door we've opened along the way. © 2011 The Old World

Battle Creek 04:07
Battle Creek I'm singing this song to chase the blues away. I'm asking the clouds in the sky for the words to say. Cause when the sky's got the blues, everything is ok. I'm singing this song to chase the blues away. I'm tapping my toe to the beat of the rain on the door. The ceiling is leaking and dripping down onto the floor. But with a rhythm like that, who could ask for more? I'm tapping my toe to the beat of the rain on the door. It's times like this, that a man can lose his mind. So I'm singing you this song to pass the time. I'm strumming this guitar to keep me company. Trying real hard not to lose my sanity. But all these faces look the same to me. I'm strumming this guitar to keep me company. My radio plays these old-time country songs. I always catch myself singing along. They've got me convinced that nothing's ever wrong. My radio plays these old-time country songs. It's times like this, that a man can lose his mind. So I'm singing you this song to pass the time. I don't know why my baby left me alone. She told me I was something she'd outgrown. You and I both know that's just how it goes. But I still don't know why my baby left me alone. I'm humming this tune to bring her back to me. I've been living my life in her sweet memory. I'll do what I can to set my spirit free. I'm humming this tune to bring her back to me. It's times like this, that a man can lose his mind. So I'm singing you this song to pass the time. © 2011 The Old World

The Stranger 04:07
The Stranger I'm walking backwards. You've got a right to know. House in a vacuum? Sounds like a place I could go. I'm looking out for number one. My baby's got me on the run. I left a note, I headed out that back door. I couldn't take it no more. My supersonic, staple my shoes to the wall. Ponder your logic. Taking the blame for it all. I'm looking out for number one. My baby's got me on the run. I left a note, I headed out that back door. I couldn't take it no more. Now listen close. I'm like a ghost. I don't always make my presence known. Now and then, I disappear. Call it supernatural. I'm looking out for number one. My baby's got me on the run. I left a note, I headed out that back door. I couldn't take it no more. © 2011 The Old World

New Stripes 03:38
New Stripes There is nothing more revealing than the impressions left on the ceiling. Whited-out maps which led us constantly back down memories lane, Eventful, if not stained. The skies are bluer today, but that's not to say, I don't wish they were grey. Cause when the clouds roll in, and I can feel the rain begin to fall, I know that everything will be ok. One of these days we'll embrace what we once fought. Stranger things have occurred. If these walls could talk, they might dare not. We'll burn them to the ground to light they way. I've been telling stories based on love songs, Fabricating all my friends. But then I laid with your dark eyes shining, And this fiction found its end. One of these days we'll embrace what we once fought. Stranger things have occurred. If these walls could talk, they might dare not. We'll burn them to the ground to light they way. © 2011 The Old World

The Human Factor I'm putting all my flaws and doubts up on a shelf, though I'm constantly afraid. Scared of what? I haven't found out for myself, but every night this week I've prayed. No matter how far I've come, they had some, I never had none. Framed in by your thumbs, I'll shield my eyes from the sun. "Take one last look at this place". We sold our souls to modern art, we'll trade our hearts for maps and charts, in hopes to satisfy the need. But if I wake up now, I'll never live this down. With our ears to the ground, we won't stop till we figure this out. © 2011 The Old World

about

There is a cabin on a mountain next to a lake. It's August, in the year 2010, and we've traveled here to make a record. We brought our drums, and our guitars. We brought our fiddle and our mandolin. We brought our keyboards and our amplifiers. We brought microphones, and endless knots of cables and wire. We know how we want our record to sound, and we hope you'll enjoy what we've created.
